Friends of Prostate Sufferers

The Friends of Prostate Sufferers (FOPS) is dedicated to providing support and resources for individuals affected by prostate cancer. They organize support group meetings, educational events, and awareness campaigns to help those in need. FOPS aims to reach a wider audience through their initiatives and improve the lives of prostate cancer patients and their families. The FOPS (Friends of Prostate Sufferers) is a support group based in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire. Established in 2009, the FOPS are a friendly group who have experienced most of the various Prostate cancer treatments that combat both Prostate Cancer and BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). The group share their experiences and answer questions you may have in a relaxed environment. They offer support and comfort to men recently diagnosed with or having prostate cancer, raise awareness, and encourage support from partners and families. They also offer regular PSA tests and host fund-raising events. The FOPS greatest accomplishment is that, working together, we have helped, and will keep on helping, men affected by Prostate Cancer (also known as 'Tiger Cancer') turn themselves away from their personal precipices and get their lives back together. We provide support for men affected by prostate cancer, offering a relaxed and informal environment to share experiences and gain knowledge about treatment options. Our monthly meetings are held online and in-person, welcoming not only men but also their wives, partners, and family members. We aim to create a supportive community where individuals can feel comfortable discussing their concerns and experiences with prostate cancer. The FOPS are based in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire. We have eminent Urologists, a Nurse Specialist and a local GP on the FOPS council, as well as support from the local Chorleywood surgeries. The group is led by former teacher, Bob Arthy. We have FOPS who have experienced most of the various treatments that combat both prostate cancer and BPH who are able to talk to you. We know that women can be very persuasive to get their men to act so you are particularly welcome to contact us about a partner or friend. "The FOPS Case Summary" gives an overview of some of our varied case histories and you can find out more about each individual by following the links. Also see our Aims which sets out more formally what The FOPS are about and "Media Coverage" to hear Bob Arthy being interviewed in a BBC broadcast as part of our awareness campaign. However, as well as serious discussion, we know that laughter is the best tonic in most situations to help cheer us up. With that in mind the Fopsters (a few of the FOPS) have penned some words that go with both original and well known tunes to provide a more light hearted insight into our common problem. See also "The Fopsters" for more songs and helpful videos that are particularly effective in raising awareness. Please explore our site and if, at some stage, you would like to join the FOPS you would be very welcome to join us in helping others take on Tiger Cancer of the prostate - and give them the best chance to get back on with their lives, as we have.
